Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy
Case study — Custom LMS
A Custom Built LMS
A lean Phase I LMS when a shared industry platform could not publish fast enough, price memberships correctly, or let the academy profit from its own CEU content.
Overview
One academy, one learning product — a public course catalog, member-aware checkout, Storyline delivery over the Tin Can API, and an admin workflow to draft, test, and publish without a ticket queue.
The Neurology Section — now the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy — was on APTA’s shared learning platform. Posting waited on someone else’s schedule. Admin screens carried features the section never used. Recurring fees added up, and there was no clean path to revenue from proprietary CEU courses built for neurologic PT certification requirements.
Myriad scoped a Phase I custom LMS to the section’s budget: only the Tin Can verbs Storyline actually emits, not a six-figure COTS rebuild. The application runs decoupled from Sitefinity so a future website change does not drag the learning product with it. Learners reach it from the academy site; staff own the full publish cycle inside the LMS.
The catalog is the front door: title, description, member and non-member price, CEU value, and presenter details before checkout.

The Challenge
A shared LMS built for everyone’s workflow — not the section’s. Long waits to go live, bloated admin, open-ended fees, and no control over member pricing, Storyline packaging, or the certificates learners need for CEU credit.
CEUs are the deliverable — courses, assessments, and certificates that have to be correct the week a new Storyline package goes live.

The Solution
Phase I on purpose: public catalog, APTA membership validation for pricing, Stripe checkout, Storyline over Tin Can with pause and resume, post-course surveys, PDF certificates, and an admin path from Storyline zip upload to test to publish — with CSV export when staff need the numbers.
Learners register, get member or non-member price via APTA ID validation, pay through Stripe, pause and resume Storyline courses, complete a survey, then download a PDF certificate from their dashboard.
Administrators upload Storyline packages, set pricing, link a survey, test Tin Can playback, publish to the catalog, and export rosters — without waiting on a shared platform queue.
When the Board and I were met with the challenge of needing a learning management system that was responsive to a unique set of requirements and needs, we went to Jeff. It was always an easy conversation explaining the desired outcomes and obtaining his confident response of “yes, we can do that.”
